In 2006 I was prompted to start going to school at Andrews School of Medicine to become a medical transcriptionist. At that time, my wuzband was ill and he had been given very little time to live. The doctors said that if he wanted a chance to live, he needed to stop working. So, being the person I am, I started opening myself up to inspiration so that I could provide for the family.
I joined the school and I started working on the transcription. I had a lot of fun with it. And, I was good. I made some friends. I touched some lives. Some lives touched mine. I was super excited about becoming a medical transcriptionist. It meant I could make money working from home and take care of my 4 boys. It also meant he could come home and have a chance at life.
Life got a little busy and I found myself slacking off and I kind of almost dropped out. With everything going with K, and all of the other things in life, I just didn’t feel like I could give it what it needed to get me there.
So, medical transcription became one of those things I started but didn’t finish. Until… I found out I was pregnant again and I knew I needed to stay home with my kids. I asked the owner of the school if I could rejoin and finish and she told me I could. So I did. This was about a year latter.
Around that same time, Mind Movies came out with their debut product, the original Mind Movies program. I had learned about the law of attraction through Leslie Householder’s Jackrabbit Factor, and I knew I knew what I wanted. I thought having the Mind Movies as a help would be a great idea. So, for their launch, I bought the Mind Movies with all the bonuses.
I finished up the school, graduated with honors and went on to try to find myself a job as a transcriptionist. But I just couldn’t find a job. It made absolutely no sense to me, because I knew I had been inspired to do the transcription. No matter how hard I tried or how many applications I put in, medical transcription was not happening. And yet, everyone else in my class was getting jobs. This was disheartening to me.
The thing is, I’m super flexible and I am constantly moving from one thing to the other. I decided I was going to use the process from the JackRabbit Factor to get myself the perfect job. I got very clear on what it was I wanted and what I wanted to accomplish with it. I created my mind movie and I let it go.
One afternoon, I was sitting on the floor playing with my 5 year old son. The baby was napping and we had a little bit of time. So we sat there playing blocks, and I got this nudge to go get the bonuses for the Mind Movies.
At first I kind of brushed it off. How weird! Why is this getting me right now? I’m playing with my son. I’ll do it later! But the feeling persisted. I told him I would be right back and I went and got my computer and started working on getting the bonuses.
There was one bonus that seemed fairly interesting, and I loved the name of the company, Mastermind Mentor. So, I applied for one of his one on one discovery sessions. At the end of the call, it was clear we would be working together, however, I didn’t know how it would be because the funding just wasn’t there. So, I put it out there and I let go.
I had recently been in a car crash, and the day that we had had our discovery call, I was on my way to the chiropractor. The crash had been pretty bad and I was in serious pain with some pretty bad inflammation. He mentioned that he was selling this “Healthy Chocolate” called Xocai and he knew it could help me with my inflammation.
I didn’t know much about Xocai, but I had jumped in to so many MLMs, I knew they had potential but I had never been able to do anything with them. At first, I said I would think about it. And then, K lost his job due to his illness. He wasn’t going back to work. All of a sudden things got real and I had to do something. So, I called up Jeff from Mastermind Mentor and I told him things had changed. I needed to make this work.
And I joined Xocai. It felt like the right thing to do. And it was amazing. Within the first month, I had made back all my investment and then some. K was feeling better from eating it. Everyone I knew who tried it loved it.
Because I needed to make this business work, I went and I started up a twitter account. I started up Facebook. The day after I started up my twitter account, I went on to post and I see a post from Jeff. “Need transcriptionist ASAP.” I was a little ticked, honestly. He knew I did transcription. And he knew I needed money.
I called him up and kind of gave him a hard time. He apologized and said that he had forgotten it was one of my skills. He explained the project and he told me it had a low budget for the transcripts. He offered me $25 per audio hour. I told him that was really low. He told me if I could do the transcripts for the $25 per audio hour, he would make sure I could help with the customer service for $25 per hour. There was bound to be some money made if I went that route.
So, I worked for days to get those transcripts done. There were 28 audios at an hour a piece. It ended up being a little less than $600. But it was almost 2 weeks of 10 hour days. The money came at an opportune time and he was happy with how quickly I had done the turn around.
The event was about to start and I reminded him about the customer service aspect. He assured me that the deal was still good.
The day before the event rolled out, the man who had been contracted to do the customer service had a death in the family. He had to leave to Washington. He couldn’t help with the event. And it all fell on me.
YAY! I knew I needed this money. Holy cow it was a lot of work. I felt like I was working 24 hours a day. There was so much customer service. Nick Ortner was just starting out the Tapping Solution and this was his first event. The EFT World Summit. The very fact that it was called the EFT World Summit caused quite a bit of the customer service that was coming in.
We made it through. He liked me and he liked the work I did. He asked if I could continue on as his customer service rep. I was glad to do it. After all, I needed a job. I was now the provider for the family.
We had lost everything by this point. We went from 6 figures to unemployed. I was determined to build us back. And over the course of the next couple of years I did.
Many more things happened during this time, including that I actually stopped selling Xocai because I have a sensitivity to sulfur and dark chocolate is high in sulfur. It was giving me a rash and I just couldn’t sell something I couldn’t use. The point of this post is to share how a prompting might not be exactly what you think it is.
All of the inspirations, the nudges and the signs are often breadcrumbs leading you down a path – life is not a destination, it’s a journey. The breadcrumbs are never ending.
The fluidity of life is wonderful. When you find a clearing, you might decide to stay for a while. I did. I stayed for a couple of years. And then life happened and I decided it was time for a new adventure. I had been resting for long enough.
And off I went following new breadcrumbs. And then I stopped and played for a while.
The coolest thing of all is that any of those breadcrumbs I have availed myself to have been key pieces of my entire journey, not just the next pitstop.
Where are you? What breadcrumbs have you followed to get there? What is one key inspiration you followed that changed the course of your life?
When you can find it, you will find that first proof that the Universe is conspiring for you to bring you the most amazing adventure!
